Hawks Offense Explodes in 15-4 Rout of Walsh

QUINCY, Ill. - No. 9 Quincy University baseball continued their hot start to the season with a 15-4 drubbing of Walsh University to close out the weekend in Nashville, Tenn. on Sunday (Feb. 28). QU had 19 hits between eight players. Six Hawks had multiple hits in the game. Eight of those 19 hits went for extra bases.

Ryan Snyder continued his hot streak from the plate for the Hawks (3-0). Snyder started the scoring for Quincy with an RBI double to left in the first inning. Justin Blechle followed suit with a two-RBI double. Snyder would later hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift his season RBI total to 14.

Dominic Miles also hit a home run in the eighth. Miles had a three-run shot to left field. Miles finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI.

JP Meyer touched a ball over the left field wall in the third inning of the two-run variety. Meyer was 2-for-4 with three RBI.

David Jacob finished the day 5-for-6 from the plate with three runs and an RBI. The lefty had five singles in the three hole for QU.

All of Walsh's (2-5) came off homers. Walsh had solo home runs in the fourth and fifth inning. The Cavaliers had a two-run homer in the ninth when the game was already far out of reach.

Braden Shull (W, 1-0) earned the win for the Hawks making his first start of the season. Shull threw five innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks. The southpaw had four strikeouts. 

Mark Niebrugge pitched three innings of scoreless baseball scattering three hits.

The last time the Hawks scored 15 runs or more was against William Jewell College on April 25, 2014 in the second game of a doubleheader.

The Hawks will travel to Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky. for a pair of doubleheaders on March 5 and 6.
