Bats Stay Hot in Nashville in Win over Wayne State

QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 9 Quincy University baseball team kept the good times rolling at the plate on Saturday (Feb. 27) against Wayne State University in a 9-8 win in Nashville, Tenn. A pair of late inning home runs from Ryan Snyder and Dominic Miles helped QU edge past WSU. Snyder followed up a solid offensive effort yesterday with a double, a homer, and six RBI. The senior right fielder now has 11 RBI through two games this season.

The Hawks (2-0) never led in the game until Dominic Miles launched a solo blast to left field to lead off the top of the ninth inning.

QU fell behind in the bottom of the first inning after Wayne State (0-2) got the inning started off a throwing error by Brynn Martinez where Jeremy Carrell reached second. Brad Baldwin doubled to score Carrell and later scored on a balk to give WSU a 2-0 lead.

Jake Walters started the second inning with a double to left center. With one out, JP Meyer sent a ground-rule doubel down the right field line to score Walters. Troy Wehde singled to bring home Meyer and tie the game.

Carrell started off the bottom of the third for WSU with a walk. Baldwin doubled to left to score Carrell from first. Justin Kelly singled to score Baldwin retaking a two-run lead for Wayne State.

Another double by Baldwin in the fourth inning scored three more runs for the Warriors.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Ryan Snyder cleared the bases with a double to right field.

Wayne State would add a run in the bottom of the sixth to lead 8-5.

Snyder tied the game in the seventh inning, lacing a three-run home run over the left field wall.

After Miles game-winner in the top of the ninth, Teddy Rule closed out the game allowing one hit and striking out one for his first save of the season.

Cole Crawford (W, 1-0) earned the win for the Hawks pitching a scoreless eighth inning with a walk and two strikeouts.

Jake Walters was 1-for-2 with three runs scored. Troy Wehde went 2-for-4 with an RBI. QU had nine hits including six extra base hits.
