Rockhurst Sends Quincy To Defeat With Early Burst

QUINCY, Ill. – Host Rockhurst built an 18-2 lead after the first quarter as the home team defeated the visiting Quincy University women's basketball team, 76-54, in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday (Dec. 3) afternoon in Kansas City, Mo.
 
Quincy (1-7, 0-2 GLVC) played nearly even with Rockhurst after the opening quarter, but the visitors were not able to dig out of the deficit. QU was out-rebounded, 17-10, in the opening quarter and started the game 1-for-18 from the field.
 
Rockhurst (6-2, 2-0 GLVC) built its lead to 24-2 early in the second quarter before senior guard Selina Barnes (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sierra/Southeastern CC) knocked down a 3-pointer to stop the run. Quincy trailed, 34-14, at halftime.
 
Rockhurst outscored Quincy by just two points in the second half as junior forward Anika Webster (Springfield, Ill.) scored all of her team-high 12 points in the final 20 minutes.
 
Senior forward Cha Cha Williams (Bolingbrook, Ill./Seton Hill) scored 11 points and senior guard Nikia Edom (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East/Murray State) chipped in 10 points.
 
Quincy shot 30.3 percent (20-for-66) from the field while Rockhurst hit at a 47.6 percent (30-for-63) clip. RU had a 43-36 advantage on the glass.
 
Madeline Ronshausen led Rockhurst with 14 points in 23 minutes off the bench. Jillian Myers had 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
 
Quincy will return to Pepsi Arena on Tuesday (Dec. 6) at 5:15 p.m. for a nonconference game against Hannibal-LaGrange.
