QUINCY, IL. — The Quincy University women's volleyball team traveled to Kansas City to take on the Hawks of Rockhurst University Friday. Rockhurst came into the match ranked 23rd in the country.
The Quincy Hawks got out to a 1-0 lead in the opening set on a kill by Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, MI./Fenton). Rockhurst tied the set at 1-1 and then took the lead 2-1 on a kill by Mattie Gray. Rockhurst would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the set and would go onto win the set 25-16.
Rockhurst jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second set. The Rockhurst Hawks would lead by as much as 16-9 but the Quincy Hawks would continue to battle. Multiple kills by Emily Lindemulder (Homer Glen, IL. /Chicago Christian) would trim the lead to 18-16. An attack error by Rockhurst would bring the lead to 18-17 but Rockhurst was able to hold off Quincy for a 25-19 set win.
A kill from Kayla Hamilton (O'Fallon, MO./Ft. Zumwalt West) gave Quincy a 1-0 lead in the third set. Quincy would get out to an early 6-2 lead but the tough Rockhurst squad was able to battle back and retake the lead at 10-9. Quincy and Rockhurst would trade points for much of the third set. Rockhurst was able to use eight consecutive serves by Kalie Arnold to extend their lead to 23-18. Rockhurst was able to complete the three set win with a 25-20 third set win.
Bobbie Eastman lead the QU Hawks with eight kills. Emily Lindemulder also added seven kills for QU. Sara Rathbun (Stanford, IL. / Olympia) and Miranda Rodriguez (Joliet, IL. / Joliet Catholic) combined for 28 assists in the match.
QU is now 16-13, 10-7 in the GLVC. Rockhurst improved to 25-5, 15-2 in the GLVC. Quincy wraps up the regular season Saturday (November 12) against William Jewell.
