Hawks Blank Saint Joseph's, 4-0, on Senior Day

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team scored two goals in each half as the Hawks blanked Saint Joseph's, 4-0, on Sunday (Hawktober 9) afternoon at Legends Stadium.

QU also celebrated Senior Day, recognizing their five seniors on the squad: goalkeepers Krystal Felderman (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and Brianna Chapman (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word), defenders Maddy Kuhlenberg (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) and Brianna Andert (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) and midfielder Gabby Herrick (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka).

The Hawks (5-5-2, 5-4-1 GLVC) were in control of the game the entire way, outshooting the Pumas (0-8-2, 0-7-2 GLVC), 21-3, including a 12-1 mark in the first half.

Quincy got on the board in the 13th minute when junior Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) sent in a corner kick and freshman midfielder Mo Rooney (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) powered a header from six yards. It was Rooney's first career goal.

In the 27th minute, sophomore forward Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka) continued her remarkable form, defeating several defenders and scoring from 14 yards out to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead they would take into the intermission.

Just six minutes after halftime, the Hawks scored for the third time as Quisenberry smoked a long shot past the SJC keeper from outside the box. Freshman midfielder Alex Severino (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) was credited with the assist.

The Hawks capped the scoring in the 64th minute when Severino played a short ball to Quisenberry, who touched it to Pulliam, who scored into the lower right corner. Severino and Quisenberry had two assists each on Sunday and both lead the team with three total assists. Pulliam now has a team-high seven goals with six coming in the last two games.

The QU defense also posted a shutout as seniors Chapman and Felderman combined to keep the clean sheet. Felderman made two saves in the second half. Chapman played the first half and has not allowed a goal in 126 career minutes.

On top of the advantage in shots, Quincy also held an 8-2 lead in corner kicks.

The Hawks, who have scored 12 goals during their three-game winning streak, will travel to Lewis on Friday (Hawktober 14). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
