Pulliam's Four Goals Lead Hawks in Rout of 'Hounds

QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy University sophomore forward Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka) scored four goals to lead the Hawks to a 5-1 win over visiting Indianapolis on Friday (Hawktober 7) night at Legends Stadium.

The Hawks (4-5-2, 4-4-1 GLVC), coming off two straight shutouts, have now scored eight goals in their last two games to even their GLVC record.

Pulliam's four-goal performance came almost 10 years to the day of the last time a QU player scored four goals in a game. Becky Fleming scored four goals in a 4-1 win over Saint Joseph's on Oct. 6, 2006.

Pulliam was electric from the start, making weaving runs down the left wing to free herself and teammates. The gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute as sophomore forward Cassidy Foley (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) played a through-ball that sent Pulliam one-on-one with the UIndy keeper and she tucked easily inside the right post. Foley now has two assists on the season.

In the 33rd minute, she drilled a shot from just inside the box into the top corner to stretch the Hawks' lead to 2-0.

Quincy took its 2-0 lead into halftime. The Hawks and Greyhounds (4-7, 3-6 GLVC) were even on total shots, 7-7, as the visiting team was able to counter a couple of times, but was thwarted by the QU defense and junior goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic).

In the 66th minute senior midfielder Gabby Herrick (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka) had her shot from the edge of the box saved, but the rebound came to Pulliam, who just slid it past the keeper from a tight angle for the hat trick.

In the 71st minute, junior wing Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) got in on the action as her free kick from 22 yards tipped off the head of a UIndy defender and into the roof of the goal to score her sixth goal of the year.

Pulliam capped Quincy's scoring in the 79th minute as she made a terrific individual effort, carrying the ball from near midfield to the penalty area before driving a shot past UIndy keeper Emma Crenshaw for her fourth goal of the game and her fifth of the season.

Indianapolis' Michele Govern broke the Hawks' clean sheet in the 83rd minute with a long shot from outside the box that Felderman was not able to get her hands on.

The Hawks out-shot the Greyhounds, 17-12, and had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Swanson made six saves while senior goalkeeper Krystal Felderman (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) came on for the final 15 minutes and made two saves.

The Hawks will now celebrate Senior Day on Sunday (Hawktober 9) at noon when they take on Saint Joseph's at Legends Stadium.
