Tritons Score Two In First Half To Defeat Hawks

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to host Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday (Hawktober 23) afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Hawks (6-8-2, 6-7-1 GLVC) currently sit in a tie with Lewis for the final two spots in the GLVC Tournament with both Indianapolis and Southern Indiana a half-game back at 6-8 with one game to play in the regular season. Quincy welcomes No. 19 Truman State (11-1-2 GLVC) to Legends Stadium on Wednesday as the Hawks will likely need a win from that contest to advance to the GLVC Tournament.

On Sunday, the Hawks fell behind early and could not dig out of the hole. In the sixth minute, Kirsten Crabtree fired a laser from 28 yards to give the Tritons (10-3-1, 10-3-1 GLVC) a 1-0 lead. UMSL doubled its advantage in the 22nd minute with a good build-up of possession that led to a goal by McKayla Harder.

The Tritons out-shot the Hawks, 16-7, and held a 7-4 lead in shots on goal. UMSL also led in corner kicks, 4-2.

Junior wing Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) and freshman midfielder Mo Rooney (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) had two shots apiece. Junior goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) made four saves while Emily Rish had four stops for the Tritons.

The Hawks will welcome the 19th-ranked Bulldogs on Wednesday (Hawktober 26) in the final game of the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
