Poindexter Named GLVC Offensive Player of the Week

QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy University senior wide receiver Eric Poindexter (Newport News, Va./Warwick/Monroe College) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday (Hawktober 10) morning.

It is the second time in his career Poindexter has won a GLVC weekly award. He was named the GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 29, 2014. Poindexter is the second QU player to win the offensive award this season after quarterback Robbie Kelley (Rochester, Ill.) was selected on Sept. 5.

Poindexter produced a record-setting day in Quincy's 55-14 win at William Jewell on Saturday. He broke school and GLVC single-game records with 20 receptions and 317 receiving yards. He in the only player across all levels of the NCAA to have a 300-yard receiving game this season. His yardage total is the most in an NCAA Division II game since former Saginaw Valley State and current Green Bay Packers receiver Jeff Janis had 331 yards on Oct. 26, 2013.

Poindexter also matched the school record for touchdown receptions with three, hauling in two 19-yard touchdowns from Kelley in the first half and a 77-yard bomb in the third quarter.

The 5-foot-11 Newport News, Va. native also returned two kickoffs for 50 yards and returned a punt eight yards for 375 all-purpose yards on the day. He leads Division II in all-purpose yards, averaging 205 per game. Poindexter is also fifth in the country in receiving yards with 762.

Poindexter now has 2,488 receiving yards in his three-year QU career, just 18 behind Justin Dickens for the top spot on the program's all-time list.

The Hawks (4-2, 2-2 GLVC) will now play the first home night game in the program's history on Saturday (Hawktober 15). They welcome four-time defending league champion Indianapolis to QU Stadium at 6 p.m.
