Hawks Sweep Tri-Meet in St. Louis, Host UNI Saturday

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's swimming program turned in perhaps the best performance of its inaugural season on Friday (Jan. 15) night in St. Louis as the Hawks toppled host Principia and GLVC rival Maryville in a tri-meet.

The Hawks defeated Principia, 101-84, and took down the Saints, 98-71, to earn their second tri-meet sweep of the season. Quincy won seven of the 10 swimming events on Friday night, including both relay races.

The meet was an evening tune-up leading into Saturday's first home swimming meet at Quincy University. That starts at noon in the Health & Fitness Center Pool against the University of Northern Iowa.

On Friday in the 1000 freestyle, freshman Katie Cazes (Port Allen, La./St. Joseph's Academy) claimed first place with a time of 11:53.78.

The Hawks took the top two spots in the 200 freestyle as freshman Brittany Walenczyk (Waukesha, Wis./West) won the event with a time of 2:01.76. Freshman McKenna Brown (Minot, N.D./Minot-Magic City) was next to touch the pad in 2:04.33.

Junior Briana Flores (Lakeland, Fla./Tenoroc/Indian River State) won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:22.80. Freshman Reily Kane (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) was second in 2:25.01.

Flores also claimed the fastest time in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.24 seconds. Freshman Maddie Rall (Omaha, Neb./Westside) won the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:12.78.

The Hawks also took the top spot in both relays. The team of Flores, Rall, Kane and senior Kelsey Krekeler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) won the 200 medley relay to kick off the meet with a sub two-minute time of 1:59.43. Brown, Cazes, Rall and Walenczyk clocked in at 1:48.55 to win the 200 freestyle relay to end the meet.

The Hawks will now compete in the first home swimming meet in school history on Saturday (Jan. 16). The event will start at noon in QU's Health & Fitness Center Pool against UNI.
