#2 Quincy, Indianapolis Tie, 2-2, on Sunday

QUINCY, Ill. – The No. 2-ranked Quincy University women's soccer team held a two-goal lead over Indianapolis on Sunday (Sept. 27) afternoon in Indiana, but the Greyhounds scored twice in the second half and the game ended in a 2-2 draw at Key Stadium.

The Lady Hawks (6-0-3, 3-0-3 GLVC) remained undefeated on the season and carry a 12-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season.

Quincy owned the first half against the 'Hounds (1-5-2, 0-3-2 GLVC), beating the hosts on shots, 8-1.

The Lady Hawks got on the board in the 19th minute on a corner kick as junior Maddy Kuhlenberg (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) sent in the cross and senior Haylye Markway (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) got on the end of it with her head. It was Markway's first goal of the season.

QU took the 1-0 lead into halftime before doubling its lead just five minutes after the intermission. Kuhlenberg sent in a long diagonal cross from the right side and senior Ashley Burton (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) powered in a header from 10 yards inside the right post. Kuhlenberg now has three assists on the season.

Burton leads the GLVC with nine goals on the year. She also moved into a tie for fifth with Jenny Hackett on QU's all-time scoring list with 36.

Only 90 seconds after QU made it 2-0, the Greyhounds trimmed the lead to 2-1 against the run of play. UIndy stole the ball about 40 yards from goal and raced two-on-one against QU sophomore keeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic). Swanson came off her line, but Elizabeth Behrends tucked it just inside the far post.

After the goal, the Greyhounds picked up their urgency and applied more pressure against the QU back four. They equalized in the 63rd minute when Stephanie Burdsall volleyed in a cross from Michele Govern.

The Lady Hawks still had chances against the Greyhounds, but they could not take advantage of 14 corner kicks, including five in the second overtime period. QU won the battle in total shots, 19-13, and shots on goal, 14-5.

Swanson made three saves for the Lady Hawks, while her counterpart Emma Crenshaw stopped 12 shots.

The Lady Hawks will return to the field on Friday (Oct. 2) when they take on William Jewell (4-3-2, 2-3-1 GLVC) at 5 p.m. at Legends Stadium.
