Reis Lifts #13 Hawks with Golden Goal over UIndy

QUINCY, Ill. - Taylor Reis scored two goals for the Quincy University men's soccer team en route to a 3-2 overtime win over the University of Indianapolis Sunday (Sept. 27) afternoon. QU took a two goal lead on goals from Jordan Stephens and Taylor Reis. UIndy answered with two goals to tie the game. Taylor Reis played the hero scoring the golden goal in the third minute of overtime to give the Hawks a 3-2 win.

The Greyhounds (3-3-2, 2-2-2 GLVC) out shot the Hawks (6-2, 5-1 GLVC), 20-10, but both teams finished with nine shots on goal.

The Hawks struck first in the 40th minute. Pete Condol played a pass to Jordan Stephens who finished for his second goal of the season providing a 1-0 lead.

Entering halftime, Nate Griffin made three saves to hold the Greyhounds scoreless.

In the 53rd minute, Taylor Reis found open space and knocked in his fourth goal of the season past the keeper to stretch the QU lead to 2-0.

UIndy came storming back starting in the 64th minute when Callum Walsh buried a free kick from 45 yards out. Benjamin Sierra tied the game in the 71st minute on a ball sent to the goal line from Quinton Bridegroom.

The Hawks survived an onslaught of five shots in the final 10 minutes to force overtime. 

The first action of the first overtime proved to be the last. In the 93rd minute, Artan Emini found an open Taylor Reis who turned and fired a pill from 25 yards out. Reis' second goal of the game ricocheted off the cross bar and in. The golden goal secured a 3-2 victory for the Hawks.

Nate Griffin finished with seven saves. UIndy's keeper, Christopher Jones, saved six shots.

The Hawks play host to William Jewell College on Friday (Oct. 2) at Legends Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
