Hawks Score Five, Blank William Jewell on Homecoming

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team unleashed its best offensive output of the season, routing William Jewell, 5-0, on Friday (Oct. 2) night at Legends Stadium.

Five different players scored for the Hawks, mirroring their offensive production on the season. Eleven players have now recorded goals this season with junior center back Robbie Tays (Edwardsville, Ill.) and sophomore midfielder Michael Timmermann (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) adding their names to the ledger on Friday.

The Hawks (7-2, 6-1 GLVC) owned possession for most of the night and it paid off in the 22nd minute when junior midfielder Taylor Reis (Quincy, Ill./QND) played a ball ahead for sophomore forward Artan Emini (Yorkville, Ill.), who beat his defender and fired a low shot inside the far post to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Emini now has three goals and Reis has two assists on the season.

Seven minutes later, sophomore defender Chris McArthur (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) sent a ball for junior forward Xhovani Dokaj (St. Louis, Mo./CBC). Dokaj played a low cross that skipped to the back post where sophomore Jordan Stephens (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) slid on the end of it for his third goal of the season. Dokaj now has five assists and McArthur picked up his first of the year.

Just four seconds before halftime, Stephens played a give-and-go with Timmermann, who chased down the ball near the end line and sent in a looping cross that grazed the underside of the crossbar and fell over the line for his first goal of the year to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead at the break.

Tays joined the scoring in the 67th minute carrying the ball through the midfield unmarked for 30 yards before taking a crack on net from 25 yards. The shot deflected off a Jewell defender and inside the right post for the center back's first career goal.

Junior Pete Condol (Mount Carmel, Ill.) capped the Hawks' scoring, receiving a pass from Timmermann and evading the keeper inside the six-yard box before poking it in for his second goal of the season. Timmermann now has two assists.

The Hawks out-shot the Cardinals, 20-12, while the visitors had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore keeper Nate Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) made six saves to earn his second shutout of the season.

The Hawks return to Legends Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 4) when they take on No. 6 Rockhurst (6-1-1, 6-1 GLVC), which was upset by Truman on Friday, 3-1.
