#2 Lady Hawks Score Two Late In Road Win

QUINCY, Ill. – The No. 2-ranked Quincy University women's soccer team turned their offensive machine into overdrive in the latter portion of the second half on Friday (Sept. 25) night at Saint Joseph's and picked up a 2-0 win in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Lady Hawks (6-0-2, 3-0-2 GLVC) scored two goals in the final 16 minutes to put away the Pumas (1-6-1, 1-4 GLVC), who were able to apply some pressure in the first 60 minutes of the game before Quincy garnered all the possession in the final half-hour.

Quincy came close in the 67th minute, but sophomore Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) clanged her shot of the post before sophomore Mackenzie Rief (Wentzville, Mo./St. Dominic) missed wide on the rebound.

In the 74th minute, the Lady Hawks won a penalty kick after a foul in the box, but senior Haylye Markway (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) missed on her shot and Quisenberry's shot on the rebound went wide.

Just moments later, the Lady Hawks set up on a set piece. Sophomore Bailey Greubel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) delivered a perfect service and senior Ashley Burton (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) knocked in the header for her GLVC-leading eighth goal of the season. Greubel now has two assists on the season.

The Lady Hawks did not stop with one goal, continuing to maintain possession in the offensive third until doubling their lead in the 86th minute as freshman Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka) made a long run and scored over SJC keeper Amanda Volk. It was Pulliam's fourth goal of the season and senior Maxine Peat (St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) was credited with her first assist of the season.

Quincy out-shot the hosts, 30-9, for the game and took the final 16 shots in the contest.

Meanwhile, the QU defense was superb, earning its fourth shutout in eight games this season. It was the second clean sheet for sophomore keeper Krystal Felderman (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove), making her third start in net for the Lady Hawks. She dropped her goals against average to 0.58.

The Lady Hawks also led in corner kicks, 5-1. Volk made nine saves in goal for the Pumas.

Quincy has already eclipsed its goal total from last season (19) and has now outscored its opponents, 21-5, over the season's first eight games.

The Lady Hawks return to the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 27) when they travel to Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds (1-5-1, 0-4-1 GLVC).
