Felderman Earns Shutout In First Start, #3 Quincy Draws UWP

QUINCY, Ill. – The third-ranked Quincy University women's soccer team and earned a clean sheet, but could not get on the board in a scoreless draw against UW-Parkside at Legends Stadium on Friday (Sept. 18) night.

The lack of goals did not derive from a lack of opportunity. The teams combined for 40 shots wit the Lady Hawks winning that battle, 21-19. Both teams had eight shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Krystal Felderman (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) was outstanding in her first collegiate start in front of net. The redshirt-sophomore notched all eight saves for the Lady Hawks, including a tricky save to her left in the 60th minute off a cross through the box.

The Lady Hawks (4-0-2, 1-0-2 GLVC) had their best chance in the 53rd minute on a corner kick by junior Maddy Kuhlenberg (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word). Senior Haylye Markway (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) applied a strong header, but it was blocked off the line at the near post by a UWP header. The rebound came to senior Maxine Peat (St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit), whose low drive was cleared off the line by another defender.

Sophomore Mackenzie Rief (Wentzville, Mo./St. Dominic) had a clean header in the 95th minute, but it missed wide off a corner kick. Rief led the Lady Hawks with eight shots.

Markway had her second shot of the game cleared away by a UWP defender in the 105th minute off another corner kick. The Lady Hawks led in corners, 7-2.

UWP goalkeeper Sarah Dobrowolski made five saves with the defense picking up three team saves. Jillian Hetfleisch led the Rangers (2-2-1, 1-1-1 GLVC) with six shots.

The Lady Hawks will return to Legends Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 20) when they welcome Lewis (4-1-1, 2-0-1 GLVC) for a noon kickoff.
