Hawks Split Friday in Alabama

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team started Friday with a tough loss to Southern Wesleyan University, 3-0, but was able to regroup in the second match of the day to sweep Kentucky Wesleyan, 3-0. QU turned a .140 hitting percentage against SWU into a .283 hitting percentage against KWC. The Hawks had 18 aces on the day.

Gianna Lincoln led QU (3-3) with 20 kills between the two matches. Miranda Rodriguez recorded a double-double against Kentucky Wesleyan with 19 assists and 10 digs.

The Hawks played three tight sets with SWU (4-2) in the morning, but were plagued by errors. QU finished the match with 21 attacking errors and eight ball-handling errors. Gianna Lincoln tied for the match lead in kills with 14 kills. Paige O'Connor and Sarah Hughey each converted 14 kills for the Warriors.

QU came back for the night cap with Kentucky Wesleyan (0-6) and flipped the switch offensively. The Hawks had a .283 attacking percentage in the three set sweep. QU took the sets 25-18, 25-11, and 25-20. 

Emily Lindemulder led the team with seven kills and hit .500. Gianna Lincoln, Jessica Licurgo, and Stephanie Mizeur logged six kills a piece. Rachel Shores led the Hawks with 12 digs and three aces. The Hawks had 10 aces and five blocks in the match.

QU will finish the North Alabama Tournament Saturday (Sept. 12) with an 11:30 a.m. match against Montevallo followed by a 6 p.m. match against host North Alabama.
