Solo Shots Help Hawks to 6-4 Win Over Bulldogs

WESTFIELD, Ind. - The Quincy University baseball team moved on to the final four of the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 6-4 win over Truman State University on Friday.  QU won 6-4 to improve their season record against TSU to 3-2.  Tommy Hager kept his unblemished record with help from 12 hits including two solo homers.

The Bulldogs (31-19) started the game with three hits and two runs in the first inning. 

Tommy Hager (W, 6-0) settled down after the first inning and held TSU scoreless for the next four innings.  Hager tossed seven innings allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits and six strikeouts. 

Ryan Snyder sparked a rally in the second inning with a lead off homerun down the right field line.  Dominic Miles followed with a single to right center.  Justin Blechle singled to the right side and Peter Cunningham singled to the left side to score Miles to tie the game.

Brynn Martinez doubled down the right field line to start the third inning.  David Jacob doubled to score Brynn MartinezDominic Miles singled to score Jacob giving QU a 4-2 lead. 

The Hawks and Bulldogs traded runs twice giving QU the 6-4 win.

Dominic Miles sealed the game in the eighth inning with a solo homer to right.  It capped off a 4-for-4 game for Miles who scored three times and brought home two RBI.

Peter Cunningham was 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Hawks.

Jake Wehde, Jason O'Brien, and Brandon Ley combined in the eight inning allowing one run.

Teddy Rule (S, 12) allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout to record his 12th save of the season.

The Hawks move on to play William Jewell College tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET.  The much awaited rematch will take place at the GLVC Tournament in Westfield, Ind. at Grand Park.
