Men's Tennis Tops WJC, Women Fall to Cardinals

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's tennis team won a Great Lakes Valley Conference match against William Jewell College on Friday (Apr. 3) 6-3. The women fell to WJC 5-4. The QU men won five of six singles matches to secure their second GLVC victory of the season. The Lady Hawks were one win short of a victory. The women won three singles matches and one doubles match.

The QU (8-7, 2-1 GLVC) men dropped the first two doubles matches before Michael Lesko and Wyatt Pauley won the third doubles match 8-2.

Singles play was a different story. The Hawks won five of six singles matches to win 6-3 over William Jewell (4-12, 1-2 GLVC). Ian Hinkamper won 6-0, 6-4 against Marc Gaertner in the first singles match.

Patrick Kuhle lost the first set of the second singles match 6-4. Kuhle battled back to win the second set 7-6 over Amery Clews. Kuhle went on to win the match with a 6-3 third set.

Ethan Arns, Michael Lesko, and Wyatt Pauley earned singles wins for the Hawks to complete the 6-3 win.

The QU (12-4, 1-2 GLVC) women fell to William Jewell (9-7, 2-2 GLVC) 5-4 on Friday.

Amy Kuhle and Sydney Lynch improved to 19-2 this season in the first doubles match with an 8-2 win. William Jewell won the final two doubles matches.

Kuhle and Lynch recorded first and second singles match wins for the Hawks to even the match at 2-2. Elizabeth Kuenzi won the third singles match 6-4, 6-2 to post a 3-2 lead for the Hawks.

The Cardinals went on to win the final three singles matches to earn the 5-4 win.

The QU men's and women's tennis teams welcome Drury University on Saturday (Apr. 4) at Reservoir Park in Quincy, Ill. The match starts at 10 a.m.
