Miles' Single Lifts Hawks at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - The Quincy University baseball team won a tight midweek game with McKendree University thanks in part to a two-RBI single by Dominic Miles in the ninth inning to give QU the 7-5 lead.  The Hawks scored five runs in the first four innings, but the bats fell silent until Miles connected on a flare to left field.  McK scored three runs in the fifth inning to knot the game at 5-5.  QU pounded out 13 hits, but had two errors, six walks, and a hit batter.

The Hawks (32-14) got on the board in the first inning sparked by Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week Kory Wisdom.  Wisdom singled and David Jacob followed with another single to put runners on the corners.  Ryan Snyder hit a sacrifice fly to score Wisdom giving QU a 1-0 lead.

After a single and two wild pitches, the Bearcats (9-35) scored to knot up the game at 1-1 in the first with an RBI single by Brad Groleau.  The Bearcats pulled ahead in the third after an RBI double by Groleau gave McK a 2-1 lead.

The Hawks took back the lead with a four-run fourth inning.  Justin Blechle knocked in Dominic Miles with an RBI single.  He later came around to score when the Bearcats twisted a double play up the middle.  Kory Wisdom capped off the inning with a two-RBI single giving the Hawks a 5-2 lead.

McKendree tied the game in the fifth inning scoring three runs.  QU walked three batters, hit one batter, had an error, and had one wild pitch in the inning.  The Bearcats did not record a hit in the fifth.

Jake Wehde (W, 7-2) came in for the Hawks in the seventh inning throwing two innings of perfect baseball with three strikeouts to earn his seventh win of the season.

Dominic Miles came up with one out and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth and knocked a single to left field that scored Kory Wisdom and David Jacob to put the Hawks on top 7-5.

Teddy Rule (S, 9) came in to shut the door in the bottom half of the ninth to earn his ninth save of the season.  Rule struck out one as the Bearcats were held hitless for the final three and two-third innings.

Kory Wisdom was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI to improve his season average to .470.  Dominic Miles was 2-for-4 with the two game-winning RBI and a run scored.  David Jacob was 3-for-5.  Justin Blechle recorded two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.

The Hawks welcome the University of Missouri-St. Louis this weekend in the final series of the regular season.  First pitch at QU Stadium is scheduled for noon.
