Quincy Splits with Truman State in Midweek Matchup

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University baseball team split their final series with Truman State University to split the season series 2-2.  QU won game one 8-3 with a six run third inning.  Jason O'Brien earned the win in game one for his third win of the season.  TSU took game two with three runs in the seventh and eighth inning to win 4-2.

The Hawks (22-13, 16-8 GLVC) got the scoring started in the second inning.  Ryan Snyder walked to start the inning and Dominic Miles moved him over with a sacrifice bunt.  JP Meyer doubled to left center to score Snyder.

The Bulldogs (23-13, 14-10 GLVC) answered with two runs in the top of the third when Jarod Hahn doubled to left field to score TJ Wood and Wyatt Fones.

Brynn Martinez singled through the left side and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder to spark a QU rally.  Kory Wisdom singled up the middle to score Martinez.  David Jacob singled through the right side and Ryan Snyder walked to load the bases.  Dominic Miles singled to right center to score Wisdom and Jacob.  JP Meyer followed with a single through the left side to score Snyder.  Tommy Hager flew out to right field to score Miles on a sacrifice fly.  Justin Blechle singled to right advancing Meyer to third.  Gordon Gundaker flew out to right to score Meyer to cap off a six run inning.

In the fourth inning, David Jacob walked and Ryan Snyder doubled to right field to put two runners in scoring position for Dominic Miles.  Miles grounded out to second to score Jacob giving QU an 8-2 lead.  

Jason O'Brien (W, 3-2) threw six innings allowing three runs, two runs earned, on five hits and five walks with two strikeouts.  Jake Wehde threw one inning of scoreless baseball to secure the 8-3 win for the Hawks.

Truman State sparked the offense in game two when Blake Deaton reached on a dropped fly ball to left field and advanced to second base.  Deaton stole third and Chris Iliopoulos walked to put runners on the corner.  After two pop outs, TJ Wood singled through the right side to score Deaton.  

Quincy answered in the fourth inning started by a Kory Wisdom single.  A ground out and a fly out advanced Wisdom to third and Dominic Miles laid down a perfect squeeze bunt single to score Wisdom from third to tie the game at 1-1.  

Gordon Gundaker doubled on a deep fly ball to left center and Kory Wisdom singled with two outs to score Gundaker giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Jake Wehde (L, 5-2) entered the game for Daniel Schnicker in the seventh inning.  With two singles and two outs, Matt Norton entered for the Hawks.  Chris Iliopoulos singled to left to score Paul Trenhaile.  Blake Deaton stole third base and scored on a single to left by Adam Gregorich to give Truman State a 3-2 lead.  

The Bulldogs added another run in the eighth inning when Jarod Hahn singled to left to score Zak Larkin.

The Hawks had two runners reach third in the seventh and eighth inning, but failed to score to fall to the Bulldogs 4-2 in game two.

The Hawks play host to Drury University this weekend (Apr. 18-19) in a GLVC four-game series.  The doubleheader on Saturday starts at noon at QU Stadium.
