Quincy Women Top RU in Critical GLVC Match; Men Fall to Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Quincy University women's tennis team won an important match in Kansas City, Mo. against Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Rockhurst University on Friday (Apr. 10).  QU won the match 5-4 with a three-setter win by Morgan McGinnis deciding the match.  The Quincy men fell to Rockhurst 8-1 in the dual match.

The Quincy women (13-5, 2-3 GLVC) pulled off an upset of regionally-ranked No. 9 Rockhurst (7-10, 2-3 GLVC) 5-4 in an away match.  QU got the match started on the right foot with a two wins in doubles play.  Amy Kuhle and Sydney Lynch continued their doubles dominance with an 8-6 win.  They improved to 20-3 in doubles this season.  Morgan McGinnis and Anna Morrissey earned the third doubles match win with an 8-5 victory giving QU a 2-1 lead.

Amy Kuhle kicked off singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the first singles match to improved to 16-7 this season.  Elizabeth Kuenzi lost the first set of the third singles match 6-2.  Kuenzi came back with a strong second set to sweep 6-0.  The third set was a gritty 7-6 win for the QU sophomore.  

Rockhurst took three singles matches to tie the match at 4-4.  The fell in the hands of Morgan McGinnis and the sixth singles match.  McGinnis won the first set 7-6, but Maddy Kayser came back with a 6-0 second set win to tie the decisive match.  McGinnis regrouped for a 6-4 third set win to improve to 18-4 in singles play this season and clinch the QU win 5-4.

The QU men (8-9, 2-3 GLVC) fell to Rockhurst (12-4, 3-1 GLVC) 8-1 on Friday.  QU earned one win in doubles play before falling to RU.

Ian Hinkamper and Ethan Arns took the first doubles match 8-5 to improve to 16-6 in doubles play this season.  Rockhurst won the next two doubles matches and swept singles play.

The QU women travel to St. Louis, Mo. to play Maryville University in the final GLVC match of the season that has GLVC Tournament implications on the line.  The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Saturday (Apr. 11).
