Quincy Offense Pounds Hounds 9-5

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Quincy University baseball team completed their weekend in Nashville, Tenn. with a 9-5 win over the University of Indianapolis on Monday (Mar. 9).  QU got on the board early and often scoring six runs in the first four innings.  UIndy managed to close the gap to 8-5 before Dominic Miles added an insurance run in the eighth.  Tommy Hager closed it down for a 9-5 Hawks' win.  QU tallied 15 hits with eight players recording at least one hit and all nine starters reaching base in the game.

Graham Spraker started for the Hawks (4-2) throwing four and two-thirds innings.  Spraker allowed one run on three hits and five walks with five strikeouts against UIndy (1-5).  

Brynn Martinez got the Hawks started in the bottom of the first with a single and a stolen base.  Kory Wisdom walked and David Jacob singled to load the bases.  Jordan Tackett sent a wild pitch to the backstop that scored Martinez and advanced Wisdom and Jacob up a base.  Dominic Miles hit a sacrifice fly to score Wisdom giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Kory Wisdom walked with one out in the bottom half of the third and David Jacob hit a triple to score Wisdom.  Tommy Hager hit a sacrifice fly to score Jacob from third to push the lead to 4-0.

Brynn Martinez beat out a single to the shortstop in the fourth inning with two down.  Kory Wisdom knocked a double to center that Martinez scored on.  Wisdom advanced to second on the throw home.  David Jacob singled to score Wisdom giving the Hawks an early 6-0 lead.

Spraker got two outs in the fifth, but allowed a single and a walk.  Daniel Schnicker was called in from the bullpen and allowed a single for the Greyhounds' first run.  Schnicker had runners on second and third and got the a fly out to end the inning.

Schnicker tossed two and a third innings to earn his first win of the season. He allowed two runs on five hits with one strikeout.

With one out in the bottom half of the fifth, Justin Blechle doubled and was brought home by a Peter Cunningham single to give QU a 7-1 lead.

The Hawks added another run in the sixth inning when Dominic Miles scored Kory Wisdom on a sacrifice fly.

The Greyhounds scored two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to pull to an 8-5 deficit.

Dominic Miles added another insurance run when he singled home Kory Wisdom in the bottom of the eighth.

Tommy Hager took the mound for the Hawks in the ninth and mowed down the Hounds in order.  Hager got a popup and swinging strikeouts to finish the 9-5 win for the Hawks.

Kory Wisdom was three for three scoring every time he came to the plate with five runs scored.  Wisdom also had an RBI.  David Jacob was four for five with a triple and two RBI.  Dominic Miles went two for three with three RBI and two sacrifice flies.  Brynn Martinez was two for four with two runs scored.

The Hawks will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to play Missouri Western State University on Wednesday (Mar. 11).  It will be a single game with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
