QU Downs Truman in Men's and Women's Tennis

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams both picked up a win in the first Great Lakes Valley Conference match of the season on Saturday, Mar. 21. The QU men played a tight match against Truman State University and edged TSU 5-4. The QU women swept the Bulldogs 9-0.

The Truman State men (1-6, 0-1 GLVC) took the first doubles match 8-4.

Patrick Kuhle and Ryan McMillan won the second doubles set 8-3 for the Hawks (5-6, 1-0 GLVC).

Michael Lesko and Wyatt Pauley teamed up for the third doubles match and edged Ryan Bunsnelmeyer and Austin Buck 9-7.

Ian Hinkamper started the Hawks with a 6-1, 6-1 win in singles play from the number one spot. Truman State went on to win the next three singles matches.

Wyatt Pauley tied the match at 4-4 with a 6-3, 6-1 win in sixth singles. Chris Bueler clinched the deciding point for the Hawks in the fifth singles match with a 6-2, 6-4 win.

Amy Kuhle and Sydney Lynch improved to 16-0 in doubles play this season with an 8-1 win over Truman State (1-6, 0-1 GLVC) in the first doubles match.

Elizabeth Kuenzi and Gabi Papachrisanthou won the second doubles match for the Lady Hawks (10-1, 1-0 GLVC).

Anna Morrissey and Morgan McGinnis secured a tight 9-7 third doubles match to give QU a sweep of doubles.

Michelle Gass played a close match in the fourth singles slot. Gass won the first set 7-5, but Truman's Lindsey Schlichting took the second set 7-6 to force a third set where the first player to 10 wins. Gass pulled away in the third set to win 10-3 and clinch a 9-0 sweep for the Lady Hawks.

The women's tennis team is back in action at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Mar. 22) at Macomb, Ill. to take on Western Illinois University. The men join the women on Friday, Mar. 27 at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Ill. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
