Lady Hawks Top McK; Men Fall to Bearcats

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams played McKendree University in a non-conference match at the Quincy Racquet Club in Quincy, Ill. on Saturday (Feb. 28). The QU men fell to McK 7-2. The QU women topped the Bearcats 6-3, sweeping doubles play. The Lady Hawks stay undefeated this season with the win.

Ian Hinkamper and Ethan Arns picked up the Hawks' (3-3) lone win against McKendree (7-2) in doubles play with an 8-0 victory in the number one doubles position. Hinkamper also won for QU in singles play. The senior number one singles player defeated Maximilian Ilic 6-3 and 6-2 to win the match.

The Lady Hawks (6-0) swept doubles play against the Bearcats (6-3). Amy Kuhle and Sydney Lynch won the top doubles match 8-2. Elizabeth Kuenzi and Gabi Papachrisanthou downed the Bearcats 8-2 in the second doubles match. Anna Morrissey and Morgan McGinnis secured the doubles sweep with another 8-2 win over McKendree in the third doubles match.

Syndey Lynch had a hard fought win in the second singles match. Lynch won the first set 7-5, but Kelcie Comley took the second set 7-6. Lynch was able to overcome the second set loss to win the third set 6-4.

Elizabeth Kuenzi fell behind in the third singles match after a 6-1 first set loss. Kuenzi turned it around in the second set with a 7-5 win and carried that momentum into a 6-2 third set win to take the match and secure the fifth point for QU.

Morgan McGinnis won her sixth flight singles match in a shortened contest. McGinnis took the lone set 8-5 to win the sixth match for the Lady Hawks.

The men's and women's tennis teams head to warmer weather on Mar. 8 when Quincy takes their Spring Break to Hilton Head, S.C. The men and women both play four matches in Hilton Head starting with Bloomsburg University on Mar. 8.
