Women's Tennis Edges Coe 5-4; Men Fall to #35 Kohawks

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Quincy University tennis teams played their first dual matches of the Spring season at Coe College on Sunday (Feb. 15).  The QU women handed CC their first loss of the season with a 5-4 match.  The Lady Hawks won two doubles matches and three singles matches to down the Kohawks.  The QU men fell to No. 35 Coe 9-0.

Amy Kuhle and Sydney Lynch doubled up to down the top doubles team from Coe (11-1).  Kuhle and Lynch played a tight doubles match that ended in the Lady Hawks' (5-0) favor, 8-6.

Haley Resnick and Sarah Lasecki won the second doubles match for Coe College 8-3.  

Anna Morrissey and Morgan McGinnis took third doubles match in a decisive 8-1 victory.

Amy Kuhle faced Haley Resnick as the top singles match and it did not disappoint.  Resnick took the first set 6-1, but Kuhle fired back with a 6-3 win in the second set.  The sophomore went on to win the third set 6-3 to give the Lady Hawks their third point of the match.

Sydney Lynch also went three sets with Amy Sebastian in the second singles match.  Sebastian won the first set 6-4.  Lynch responded with a 7-6 win in the second set, but Sebastian won the third set 7-5 to take the match.

Michelle Gass played a three setter against Laura Birky in the fourth singles match.  Birky won the first set 6-2, and Gass turned the tide in the second set with a 6-4 win.  Birky edged out Gass in the final set with a 7-6 win.

Anna Morrissey topped Sarah Lasecki in the fifth singles match.  Morrissey took the first set 7-5 and made quick work of the second set with a 6-3 win.

Morgan McGinnis gave the Lady Hawks their fifth point in the sixth singles match.  McGinnis won 6-1 in two sets to finish the dual in decisive fashion.

The QU (2-2) men fell in three straight doubles matches with 8-2 finishes in all of them.  

No. 35 Coe (4-1) went on to sweep the singles matches as well.

Ian Hinkamper won the first set in his number one singles match 6-3.  Noah Sprinkel countered with two straight 6-1 sets to hand Hinkamper his first loss of the season.

Men's and women's tennis will play host to Monmouth College next Saturday, Feb. 21.  The match will start at 1 p.m.
