#7 UIndy Shoots Through Hawks, 95-76

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team could not stay with No. 7 Indianapolis as the Greyhounds came away from Pepsi Arena with a 95-76 win over the Hawks on Thursday (Feb. 12) night.

The Greyhounds (20-2, 12-2 GLVC) clicked on all cylinders offensively, shooting 53.7 percent (29-for-54) from the field, including a 51.9 percent (14-for-27) from 3-point range. The 14 3-pointers are the most by a QU opponent since Drury sank 15 on Jan. 19, 2012.

The Hawks (11-13, 5-9 GLVC) never led in the game after the Greyhounds jumped out to a 9-2 advantage. Quincy opened the game missing six of its first seven shots from the floor.

Quincy got back in the game with a quick 6-1 run, capped by a layup by redshirt-sophomore forward Scottie Bruxvoort (Mitchellville, Iowa/Prairie City Monroe) with 13:07 left that cut the deficit to 17-15. The Greyhounds worked their lead back up into double digits and led 54-42 going into halftime.

The Hawks went on a 9-0 run coming out of the intermission, getting five points from junior wing Godson Eneogwe (Chicago, Ill./Illinois Central) and four from redshirt-sophomore forward Evan McGaughey (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) in a stretch of two minutes, 19 seconds.

The momentum was quickly erased as the 'Hounds scored the next seven points to rebuild their lead back to 10, 61-51. The deficit quickly ballooned to 16 points and the Hawks never got it into single digits the rest of the way.

Bruxvoort scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half to lead the Hawks offensively. Eneogwe finished with 15 points and six boards, while McGaughey chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. The Hawks shot 46 percent (29-for-63) from the field, but went 3-for-16 (18.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Indianapolis had six players score in double figures with Joe Lawson leading the way with 18 points. Lucas Barker had 14 points, six boards and five assists. Kendall Vieke had 12 points – all coming on 3-pointers.

The Hawks will look to snap their four-game losing streak on Saturday (Feb. 14) when they square off with Saint Joseph's (6-18, 3-11 GLVC). The Pumas lost at Truman State on Thursday, 112-75. Tip-off is set for 3:15 p.m. at Pepsi Arena.
