QU Tennis Courts Receive USTA Grant

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University tennis courts received a grant from United States Tennis Association Facility Funding to resurface the four court facility this summer. The USTA awarded QU $7,000 toward the resurfacing project that was completed in the beginning of October.

5777The USTA facilitated the funding with the goal of providing the community access to a safe, appealing, and functional tennis environment. "The essence of this initiative is to assist communities, leveraging their tennis facilities to promote lifelong healthy activity, and to improve their programming by advancing the latest tennis innovations for all program types," explained Virgil Christian, Senior Director, Market Development & Collegiate Tennis for the USTA.

5779Quincy University took this opportunity to upgrade the area surrounding the facility as well. The facility is now surrounded by wind screens that are printed with Quincy University logos and the hawk eyes and wings that have become synonymous with QU athletic facilities. These wind screens were part of a sponsorship by Refreshment Services Pepsi.

5776"We are pleased to have the support of the USTA for upgrading our tennis facility," Director of Athletics, Marty Bell stated. "We have have been blessed over the past few years to provide upgrades for many of our athletic facilities. The QU Tennis Courts were in need of resurfacing and we also wanted to brand them as 'Quincy University's Tennis Courts' to create a home court advantage for our student-athletes," Bell said. "The finished product looks great and it ties our facilities together. We now have four functional tennis courts headed into the Spring season for our men's and women's tennis teams to train and compete on," explained Bell.

5778There are now four resurfaced 78 foot tennis courts with blended 36 foot and 60 foot tennis playing lines. The courts were resurfaced by All Weather Courts, Inc. from Dawson, Ill. The courts will be open to the public and will be maintained to the standards set forth by the USTA by National Management Resources in conjunction with Quincy University.
