QU Swimmers Compete in First Intercollegiate Meet

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University swimming team competed in its first-ever intercollegiate meet on Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon at Truman State. The meet also featured Lindenwood-Belleville as a third team.

The Hawks had a hugely successful meet, picking up three event wins in a meet that featured the 17^th-ranked Bulldogs.

Quincy fell to the Bulldogs, 141-72, while the Lynx picked up a 145-94 win over the Hawks.

Junior Briana Flores (Lakeland, Fla./Tenoroc/Indian River State) led the field in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.93, beating out four swimmers from Truman State.

Freshman McKenna Brown (Minot, S.D./Minot-Magic City) won the 200 backstroke touching the pad in 2:12.49. She also took first place in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:00.73.

Freshman Brittany Walenczyk (Waukesha, Wis./West) was second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:13.13. Walenczyk was also second in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 5:24.26, less than one second off the pace set by Simone de Rijcke of LU-Belleville.

Freshman Maddie Rall (Omaha, Neb./Westside) was second in the 200 breaststroke, finishing the race in 2:45.33.

Freshman Reily Kane (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) placed third in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 1:05.95.

The team of Brown, Rall, Kane and Flores finished third in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:16.46.

In the other matchup at the meet, Truman State's women defeated LU-Belleville, 142-89.

Quincy returns to the pool on Saturday (Oct. 31) at Bellarmine in a tri-meet that also features Maryville. The event starts at 2:30 p.m.
