QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team struggled offensively on Sunday (Jan. 25) and fell to St. Ambrose, 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19), in nonconference action at Pepsi Arena.

The Hawks (4-2) dropped Set 1 as the Fighting Bees (3-2) hit .323.

The second set belonged to Quincy with the hosts locking down defensively, holding the Bees to a .148 hitting percentage. The Bees led the set, 15-11, but the Hawks scored the next seven points with senior outside Andrew Cavanaugh (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) on the serve. The Bees then tied the set, 18-18, with three straight points before the Hawks finished on a 7-3 run, closed by a service error by the Bees.

Both teams had troubles behind the service line. St. Ambrose committed 20 service errors, while the Hawks had 19 in the match.

Set 3 was a defensive battle as both hit .000, but the Bees came away with the set win as they went on a 7-1 run to turn a 13-9 deficit into a 16-14 lead they would not give up. In Set 4, the Bees did not commit an error, getting nine kills on 17 attacks.
