Hawks Impress Again In 91-76 Win Over Rockhurst

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team is starting to come together on both ends of the floor and that was evident Thursday (Jan. 22) night as the Hawks came away with a 91-76 win over Rockhurst in GLVC West action at Pepsi Arena.

Quincy won its second straight game by at least 15 points after defeating Missouri-St. Louis, 81-64, last Saturday.

Quincy (9-9, 3-5 GLVC) overpowered Rockhurst (5-11, 1-7 GLVC) in the first half as the hosts were able to turn 11 Rockhurst turnovers into 15 points. QU held a 10-0 edge in fastbreak points in the first 20 minutes and an 18-4 advantage for the game.

Two of those transition points came with just under seven minutes to go as sophomore guard Herm Senor II (Springfield, Ill./Southeast) plucked a defensive rebound and threw a lob for junior wing Godson Eneogwe (Chicago, Ill./Illinois Central), who right-hand tomahawked it for the alley-oop to give Quincy a 31-20 lead.

Quincy continued to click on the offensive end until the final buzzer of the half. The Hawks ran through a play call from the bench to free up junior guard Nate Des Jardins (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) on the left wing. Des Jardins, instead of taking his trademark 3-pointer, found Eneogwe flying above the rim for a two-handed slam with less than five seconds left in the half.

That dunk gave the Hawks a 50-33 lead going into halftime. Quincy shot 60 percent (18-for-30) from the field in the first half, while limiting the visitors to just 35 percent (14-for-40) from the field. The only spot going against Quincy on the stat sheet was the glass where Rockhurst had a 24-15 advantage, including 15 offensive boards.

In the second half, the hosts built their lead up to as many as 26 points after a three-point play by senior guard Ja'mil Jones (Blythewood, S.C./Pasco Hernando CC) with 10:54 to play.

Quincy also cleaned up its rebounding in the second half, carrying a 23-17 advantage and allowing just five offensive rebounds.

Junior guard Thomas Jackson (Louisville, Ky./Cincinnati State) matched a career-high with 18 points to lead the Hawks. He also dished out six assists and pulled down three boards. Redshirt-sophomore Scottie Bruxvoort (Mitchellville, Iowa/Prairie City Monroe) scored 11 points in 16 minutes off the bench and Senor II and junior forward Dalton Hoover (Pittsfield, Ill.) added 10 points apiece.

Dominique Washington led Rockhust with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Russell Burns had 18 points and eight boards.

Quincy returns to the floor on Saturday (Jan. 24) at 3:15 p.m. when it battles William Jewell at Pepsi Arena. The Cardinals (7-9, 3-5 GLVC) lost to Truman State on Thursday, 93-68. Quincy and Jewell are tied fifth in the GLVC West.
