Lindwedel's Late Winner Lifts Lady Hawks Over Drury

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team was doing all the right things on Sunday (Sept. 28) against a quality Drury side, but it needed one touch in the final third to get a goal.

That touch was a laser off the foot of junior Taylor Lindwedel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) in the 88th minute to give the Lady Hawks a 1-0 win over the Panthers at Legends Stadium.

Lindwedel received a pass from redshirt-junior Natalie Kuhlenberg (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) and fired a rope from 25 yards out into the top, right corner of the goal. It was Lindwedel's first goal of the season and Kuhlenberg's first assist.

The Panthers had most of the possession in the early minutes of the game as the Lady Hawks tried to get themselves established.

After the first 10 minutes, the Lady Hawks (6-3, 5-1 GLVC) started to see more of the ball and were able to get some decent chances in front of goal, but could not finish.

The Panthers (4-2-2, 2-2-2 GLVC) out-shot the Lady Hawks, 8-7, in the first half and had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks, but freshman goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) and the QU back line was up to the task, including on one Drury attack that was cleared off the line by freshman defender Bailey Greubel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall).

Swanson made six saves in the game in keeping her second straight clean sheet.

The game went end-to-end in the second half with both teams coming up with quality chances, but none were converted until Lindwedel's at the 87:22 mark.

The Lady Hawks out-shot the Panthers, 16-14, for the game, while Drury held a 4-3 edge in corners.

Quincy will return to action on Friday (Oct. 3) night at 5 p.m. when it travels to Rockhurst (8-1, 5-1 GLVC), which is tied with QU for second place in the GLVC.
