Lady Hawks Drop 1-0 Decision at McKendree

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team played a mostly even game with McKendree on Sunday (Sept. 21) afternoon, but the Bearcats scored early in the second half to take a 1-0 win in Great Lakes Valley Conference action in Lebanon, Ill.

The Bearcats owned a 14-13 edge in total shots and a 6-5 lead in shots on goal in action that moved end-to-end for much of the game.

McKendree (2-5, 1-3 GLVC) had more of the ball in the first half as the Lady Hawks (4-3, 3-1 GLVC) could not keep possession for an extended period. The Bearcats held a 9-5 lead in shots in the first half.

McKendree broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute as Danielle Hareb scored her second goal of the season past QU keeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic).

After the goal, the game opened up for the Lady Hawks, but the visitors were not able to get the equalizer they needed as the McKendree defense remained organized.

The Lady Hawks had a couple chances from long range in the final two minutes, but when junior Taylor Wakeland (St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) had her 35-yard shot saved with less than 10 seconds to play the game was sealed for the Bearcats.

Junior defender Taylor Lindwedel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) and junior midfielder Ashley Burton (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) had three shots apiece.

Swanson and her counterpart, Taylor Zerbe, had five saves apiece. The teams were even on corner kicks, 5-5.

The Lady Hawks will look to get back in the win column on Friday (Sept. 26) when they play host to Missouri S&T at 5 p.m.
