Roberts to Dokaj Lifts No. 11 Hawks over McK in OT

LEBANON, Ill. - The No. 11 Quincy University men's soccer team stayed perfect against McKendree University on Sunday (Sept. 21).  QU needed almost all the time of two overtime periods to come away with their seventh win of the season.  Jordan Roberts found Xhovani Dokaj with 24 seconds left to seal the 1-0 victory for the Hawks.  Drew Duncan made one save for his sixth shutout of the season.  Duncan and the Hawk defense has not allowed a goal in 469 minutes and 36 seconds.

The No. 11 Hawks (7-0, 4-0 GLVC) took 22 shots with five shots on goal.  McK (1-4-1, 1-3 GLVC) had eight shots with one on goal.

Jordan Roberts and the QU offense applied pressure early in the first half.  Roberts put a shot on goal that was saved by Scott Armistead in the second minute.

In the seventh minute, Steve McAnany sent in a corner that was headed just over the crossbar by Ethan Venvertloh.

QU had another chance in the 23rd minute when Taylor Reis and Jordan Roberts combined for three blocked shots before Ethan Venvertloh put a shot over the top of the net.

The Hawks took 11 shots with two on goal while holding the Bearcats without a shot in the first half.

The Hawks had an opportunity late in the second half when Steve McAnany sent a set piece from the corner across the box to Ethan Venvertloh who flicked a header on net, but Armistead was there again to make the stop.

The first overtime period was all QU as they recorded a corner, three blocked shots, and a shot fired wide of the net by Tommy Koerper.

The Bearcats almost came away with a hard fought tie on the back of brilliant play by the McK defense and Scott Armistead.  A breakdown late saw a ball fall to the feet of Jordan Roberts who sent a quick touch to Xhovani Dokaj.  Dokaj broke through the defense and finished between the keeper's legs to the far post from the right side with 26 seconds left in the second overtime period.

The goal was Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week Xhovani Dokaj's sixth of the season and his fourth game-winner.

The No. 11 Hawks start off homecoming weekend at Legends Stadium against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Missouri S&T.  Kick-off on Jack Mackenzie Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
