No. 11 Quincy Knocks Off Missouri S&T, 4-0

QUINCY, Ill. – The No. 11 Quincy University men's soccer team picked up where it last left off at Legends Stadium, earning its third straight 4-0 win on its home turf, defeating Missouri S&T Friday (Sept. 26) night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

It was the Hawks' sixth straight shutout, one shy of a school record. Quincy is now out-scoring opponents, 25-2, on the season.

The Hawks played in front of a large Homecoming crowd that included the 1964 Quincy men's soccer team that launched the nationally-renowned program 50 years ago.

Quincy got on the board early as sophomore midfielder Taylor Reis (Quincy, Ill./QND/Richmond U.K.) played a short pass to senior forward Jordan Roberts (Durham, England/Gilesgate), who played a nifty backheel touch through a defender's legs and scored from 14 yards out to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. It was Reis' fourth assist of the year.

The Miners (2-4-1, 1-3-1 GLVC) might have had their best chance in the 26th minute, but senior Drew Duncan (Florissant, Mo./CBC) saved a diving header by Alex Reifschneider to keep Missouri S&T off the board.

Reis got on the scoring end of things in the 35th minute as redshirt-freshman midfielder Artan Emini (Yorkville, Ill.) played a pass out wide to midfielder Xhovani Dokaj (St. Louis, Mo./CBC). The sophomore sent a low cross across the goal mouth and Reis ran onto it for his second goal of the season. Dokaj now has six assists and Emini has two on the season.

At the 51:34 mark, Roberts struck again as senior forward Ethan Venvertloh (Quincy, Ill.) touched a pass to the top of the box for the England native who drove a low shot past the keeper for his eighth goal of the season.

The Hawks capped the scoring in the 61st minute as the Miners cleared two shots off the line by Emini and Venvertloh, but Dokaj cleaned up the final rebound on the end line to for his seventh goal of the season. Venvertloh was credited with his second assist of the game and season.

Duncan – who had a season-high six saves – and the defense have now played over 608 minutes without allowing a goal in keeping their shutout streak alive. The school record for consecutive shutouts is seven set in 1998.

The Hawks out-shot the Miners, 17-12, on Friday, but the visitors had an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Quincy will return to the field on Sunday (Sept. 28) at 2:30 p.m. when it plays host to Drury (6-1, 4-1 GLVC) at Legends Stadium. The Panthers have won four straight and are coming off a 4-2 win at Truman State on Friday.
