Bench Scores 62 in 97-55 Rout of BenU-Springfield

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team forced 22 turnovers and turned them into 28 points on its way to a 97-55 rout over Benedictine-Springfield in the Hawks' final tune-up before Great Lakes Valley Conference play opens on Saturday (Dec. 6, 3 p.m.) at Truman.

The Hawks (4-3) shot 58.2 percent (39-for-67) from the floor and the bench poured in 62 points in the win, which lifted the Hawks over the .500 mark for the season. Redshirt-sophomore forward Scottie Bruxvoort (Mitchellville, Iowa/Prairie City Monroe) led the Hawks with a career-high 23 points – 15 coming in the first half – on 10-for-12 shooting in 17 minutes off the bench.

Quincy trailed early, 13-7, before taking command of the game with a 15-0 run over a four-plus minute period. In that stretch, the Hawks forced five turnovers and the Bulldogs (4-6) missed all four of their field goal tries.

The Hawks were able to command the transition game as they took advantage of Benedictine's miscues with the ball and also getting out on the fast-break after misses. Quincy held a 40-25 edge on the glass and limited the visitors to 39.6 percent (21-for-53) shooting.

QU took a comfortable 52-24 lead into halftime after blitzing the Bulldogs 12-0 on fast-break points.

In the second half, the Hawks' lead ballooned to as many as 47 points as they used the same formula from the first half of getting on the fast-break and controlling the defensive glass.

Twelve Hawks etched their names in the scorebook and eight players scored at least seven points. On top of Bruxvoort's career night, senior forward Scott Hahn (Mt. Pleasant, Iowa) added 10 points and junior forward Dalton Hoover (Pittsfield, Ill.) scored 10. Only two players played at least 20 minutes in the game as head coach Marty Bell was able to rely on his bench to provide a major scoring punch.

Junior guard Thomas Jackson (Louisville, Ky./Cincinnati State) had nine points and sophomore guard Herm Senor II (Springfield, Ill./Southeast) and redshirt-junior guard Jordan Wilson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) contributed eight points apiece. Senior guard Ja'mil Jones (Blythewood, S.C./Pasco-Hernando CC) scored seven points and matched a career-high with six assists.

The Hawks open up GLVC play on Saturday (Dec. 6) at 3 p.m. when they tip off with Truman State in Kirksville, Mo.
