Hawks Balanced Attack Stifles Hannibal-LaGrange

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team held Hannibal-LaGrange to just three points over the final eight minutes of the first half as the Hawks rolled to a 77-44 win on Saturday (Nov. 29) afternoon at Pepsi Arena.

The 44 points allowed were the fewest given up by the Hawks since a 55-44 win over Maryville on Feb. 18, 2012.

The Hawks got off to a slow start offensively, hitting just two of their first 11 shots, before shooting 56.5 percent (26-for-46) the rest of the way to close out the Trojans. Thirteen players got on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Quincy (3-3) trailed HLGU, 10-9, with 10 minutes left in the first half. The Hawks then went on a 24-5 run and held the Trojans (1-6) without a basket in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 33-15 lead into halftime.

The Hawks also pounded the glass after Hannibal-LaGrange had an 8-4 edge at one point. QU won the battle on the boards, 39-21, and allowed just two offensive rebounds. The Trojans did not have a second-chance point.

Redshirt-sophomore forward Scottie Bruxvoort (Mitchellville, Iowa/Prairie City Monroe) led the Hawks with 13 points in 16 minutes off the bench. Redshirt-sophomore forward Evan McGaughey (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) was the only other Quincy player in double figures with 11 points.

Junior guard Thomas Jackson (Louisville, Ky./Cincinnati State) scored nine points and senior forward Scott Hahn (Mt. Pleasant, Iowa) added eight.

The Hawks limited the Trojans to just 37 percent (17-for-46) from the field. Tony Ardison led HLGU with 11 points with all of them coming before halftime.

The Hawks return to the floor on Tuesday (Dec. 2) night at 7:30 p.m. when they take on Benedictine-Springfield.
