Soccer Hawks Name Top 25 Players of Last 25 Seasons

QUINCY, Ill. – In conjunction with Quincy University's Hall of Fame weekend and the celebration of 50 years of men's soccer at the University, the Hawks are announcing their Top 25 players of the last 25 seasons.
 
The program released a list of the Top 25 players of the first 25 seasons in 1988. The following list, chosen by a committee of 10 people, consists of players who played from 1989-2013.
 
This group will be recognized for their achievements during halftime of the men's soccer game on Friday (Oct. 11) night at Legends Stadium and at the Hall of Fame banquet on Saturday night in the QU Hall of Fame Room.
 
The Hawks will also induct four men's soccer teams into the QU Hall of Fame. The squads from 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980 will each be honored as national championship teams and will also be recognized at Friday's men's soccer game. The men's soccer program will also name the Top 11 players from the last 25 seasons at the banquet, which is open to the public. It begins at 5 p.m. and the cost of the meal is $15 per person. Reservations for those wishing to attend can be made by Wednesday (Oct. 8) by calling the QU Athletic Department at 228-5291. 

 
Following is the list of the Top 25 players of the last 25 years of Quincy University men's soccer and their achievements.
 
GOALKEEPERS
 
Scott Gregory (1988-91) – Four-year starter… all-conference in 1988 and 1989… most valuable defender of conference tournament in 1989… captain in 1991… most valuable player in 1991… all-region academic in 1991… QU Hall of Fame inductee in 2004.
 
Jason O'Donnell (1994-97) – Three-year starter… most valuable player in 1996… All-GLVC… all-region in 1996 and 1997… QU leader in saves in a season (150) and career (409).
 
Jay Wright (1997-2000) – Three-year starter… most valuable player… All-GLVC… all-region… All-American in 1998… most consecutive shutouts (seven) in 1998.
 
D.J. Lampert (2009-12) – Starter for two-and-a-half years… two-time All-GLVC and one-time all-region… played on one GLVC Championship team and two teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
 
DEFENDERS
 
Bill Siebers (1989-92) – Most improved in 1991… best defender in 1991 and 1992… captain in 1992.
 
Craig Hingle (1991-94) – Best defender and most valuable player from 1992-94… captain in 1993 and 1994… QU Hall of Fame inducted in 2008… started every game all four years… only off the field for 15 minutes all four years.
 
Jonathan Douglas (1995-98) – Rookie of the Year and best defender in 1995… captain in 1997 and 1998… All-GLVC in 1996 and 1998… all-region in 1996 and 1998… All-American in 1998.
 
Andy Ippensen (1995-98) – Best defender in 1996 and 1998… All-GLVC in 1998.
 
Matt Spector (1999-2002) – Rookie of the Year in 1999… best defender from 1999-2002… captain from 2000-02… All-GLVC and all-region in 2001 and 2002…top male student-athlete in GLVC and NCAA Division II for 2002-03 school year.
 
Nick Frederickson (2002-05) – Rookie of the Year in 2002… captain in 2005… best defender in 2004… All-GLVC and all-region in 2004 and 2005… all-region and All-America academic awards in 2005.
 
Bane Isailovic (2005-08) – Best defender from 2006-08… most valuable player in 2006 and 2008… All-GLVC and all-region in 2007 and 2008.
 
MIDFIELDERS
 
Sean Bowers (1987-90) – Rookie of the Year in 1987… captain in 1990… most valuable player in 1990… top scorer in 1990… QU Hall of Fame inductee in 2007… played professionally for 12 years after college.
 
Chris Atkinson (1995-98) – All-region in 1997… All-GLVC in 1998.
 
D.J. Newsom (1996-99) – Co-Rookie of the Year in 1996… most valuable player in 1999… All-GLVC in 1999.
 
Scott Rogles (1996-99) – Co-Rookie of the Year in 1996… second-leading scorer from 1997-99… All-GLVC and all-region in 1998 and 1999.
 
Senad Hot (2002, 2004) – Co-leading scorer in 2002… All-GLVC, all-region and most valuable player in 2002… leading scorer in 2004… All-GLVC and all-region in 2004.
 
Josh Worth (2003-04) – Rookie of the Year in 2003… most valuable player, All-GLVC and all-region in 2003 and 2004… All-American in 2004… leading scorer in 2003… captain in 2003 and 2004.
 
Brad Niemann (2003-05, 2007) – All-GLVC in 2005… captain in 2007… second-leading scorer in 2007… most valuable player, All-GLVC and all-region in 2007.
 
FORWARDS
 
Mark Thomas (1986-89) – All-Big Central Conference from 1987-89… captain in 1989… most valuable player and all-region in 1988 and 1989… Senior Bowl MVP in 1989… tied for seventh on all-time scoring list with 45 goals… leading scorer in 1988 (10 goals) and 1989 (18 goals)… played many years as a professional player, winning national championships and representing the USA in international futsol tournaments… QU Hall of Fame inductee in 2000.
 
Marty Schafer (1990-93) – Rookie of the Year in 1990… captain in 1993… leading scorer from 1991-93.
 
Matt Vollink (1997-2000) – Leading scorer in 1997 and 2000 (20 goals)… All-GLVC in 1997… All-GLVC, all-region and All-American in 2000.
 
Sean Collins (1997-2000) – Rookie of the Year in 1997… leading scorer in 1999… All-GLVC and all-region in 1999 and 2000.
 
Grant Ellison (2007-08, 2010-11) – Second-leading scorer in 2008… All-GLVC in 2008… leading scorer in 2010… most valuable player, All-GLVC and all-region in 2010… captain and leading scorer in 2011… All-GLVC, all-region and All-American in 2011… GLVC Offensive Player of the Year in 2011… tied for seventh on all-time scoring list (45 goals).
 
Jack Wedemeier (2007-2010) – Rookie of the Year in 2007… leading scorer in 2008 and 2009… second-leading scorer in 2010… All-GLVC in 2009 and 2010… all-region in 2010… GLVC Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year in 2010… captain in 2010.
