UMSL Scores OT Winner to Defeat Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team had most of the threatening chances on Sunday (Oct. 26) afternoon at Missouri-St. Louis, but the hosts came up with the winning goal just over a minute into overtime as the Tritons defeated the Lady Hawks, 1-0, in St. Louis.

The Lady Hawks have now lost four straight games for the first time since the 2004 season as they have struggled to score goals in the final third.

On Sunday, the Lady Hawks (7-8-2, 6-6-2 GLVC) held a 13-7 edge in shots and put seven of their shots on target, but UMSL keeper Megan Ohm was up to the task with seven saves.

The Lady Hawks threatened for much of the second half, leading in shots 8-1, but could not finish. Freshman forward Mackenzie Rief (Wentzville, Mo./St. Dominic) had a chance early in the second half, but Ohm was there for the save. The Lady Hawks had three shots in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but none could find the back of the net. Junior midfielder Haylye Markway (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) had her effort blocked in the final minute.

The Tritons (7-8-1, 5-8-1 GLVC) scored the game-winner at the 91:15 mark on the first chance of the overtime period. Hunter Wagoner sent in a cross from the left side that found Lucy Devereux, who scored from 10 yards out at the far post.

The Lady Hawks will look to rebound on Wednesday (Oct. 29) in their regular season finale against Truman State. Kickoff at Legends Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m.
