Lady Hawks, Greyhounds End Scoreless

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team had its chances against Indianapolis, but the teams played to a scoreless draw on Friday (Oct. 10) night at Legends Stadium.

The teams combined for 32 shots in the game with the Lady Hawks (6-4-2, 5-2-2 GLVC) garnering 20 of them, but for the second time in three games neither Quincy nor its opponent could find the back of the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) earned her eighth shutout of the season and made five saves.

The best chance for Indianapolis came in the 60th minute as Taylor Cotherman came free in the box and pulled Swanson off her line. Cotherman dribbled past Swanson and fired a shot that was destined to go under the crossbar, but freshman center back Bailey Greubel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) cleared it off the line with a solid header.

The Lady Hawks had a few chances in the final 10 minutes of regulation to net the game-winner, but could not come through. Freshman forward Mackenzie Rief (Wentzville, Mo./St. Dominic) nailed a header off a corner kick, but UIndy goalkeeper Megan Fee was waiting to snag it out of the air. Fee had six saves for the Greyhounds (3-6-3, 2-4-3 GLVC).

In the 87th minute, junior midfielder Ashley Burton (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) headed a cross toward the back post, but the sinking ball struck the crossbar. The rebound came out to senior midfielder Taylor Wakeland (St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit), who had a clean shot, but Fee was there for the save.

Each keeper had one save each in the overtime periods to keep the game scoreless.

Quincy had a 7-1 edge on corner kicks in the game.

The Lady Hawks will now play host to Saint Joseph's on Sunday (Oct. 12) at noon at Legends Stadium. The team will celebrate Senior Day, recognizing their three seniors in a pregame ceremony. The Pumas (1-9-2, 0-7-2 GLVC) are coming off a 3-1 loss at Truman State on Friday.
