Omar Sanchez enters his third season as head coach of the Quincy University men's volleyball program in 2027.
In his first two seasons with the Hawks, Sanchez has guided Quincy through a period of transition while laying the foundation for sustained success. After leading the Hawks to an 8-19 record in 2025 during the program's final season in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA), Sanchez guided Quincy to a 10-13 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the program's inaugural season as a member of the GLVC in 2026.
Sanchez arrived at Quincy with nearly a decade of collegiate coaching experience, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Lewis University, where he focused on recruiting and player development.
Prior to returning to Lewis, Sanchez spent one season as head coach at University of Mount Olive, where he coached three All-Conference selections while producing both the conference Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. His squad also established a program record with 21 service aces in a match, while one player set the NCAA record for most digs in a match with 32.
Sanchez previously served four seasons as head coach at Missouri Valley College, leading the Vikings to four consecutive double-digit win seasons, highlighted by an 18-6 campaign in 2021. That season, Missouri Valley climbed as high as No. 3 in the NAIA national rankings, finished seventh nationally, earned its first NAIA National Championship Tournament appearance since 2016, and Sanchez was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. During his tenure, he coached three NAIA/AVCA All-Americans, 16 All-Conference selections, the conference Defensive Player of the Year, the Freshman of the Year, and 19 Academic All-Conference honorees.
Before Missouri Valley, Sanchez coached at the high school and club levels, serving as an assistant coach at Providence Catholic High School, head freshman girls coach at Victor J. Andrew High School, and spending more than a decade as a head coach with Ultimate Volleyball Club, helping numerous student-athletes continue their careers at the collegiate level.
Sanchez also gained collegiate experience as a volunteer assistant with Indiana University Bloomington in 2015 and began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Grand View University, helping lead the Vikings to back-to-back NAIA National Championship semifinal appearances, consecutive conference championships, a combined 48-12 record, and the No. 1 national ranking.
A native of Illinois, Sanchez began his collegiate playing career at Quincy University before transferring to Lewis University. As a member of the Flyers, he helped Lewis capture the 2012 MIVA Championship and advance to the NCAA National Semifinals. Sanchez earned his bachelor's degree in sport management from Lewis University in 2012.
