Biography
2024 (Sophomore at Clayton State): In her lone season with the Lakers, Giel appeared in 11 games and made five starts, logging 478 total minutes. She was a part of a defensive unit that only conceded 16 goals on the season, which is the third-fewest in program history. She played the full 90 minutes for the first time in her career in a 2-2 tie against USC Beaufort (10/26/24).
2023 (Redshirt Freshman at Jacksonville State): In her second season with the Gamecocks, Sam appeared in three games and totaled 67 minutes. She made her collegiate debut against Alabama A&M (8/17/23), and she dished out her first career assist for her first career point in a win over South Carolina State (8/20/23).
2022 (Freshman at Jacksonville State): Did not see action.
Personal: Samantha "Sam" Giel, originally from Acworth, Georgia, is a graduate of Harrison High School. Sam began her collegiate playing career at Jacksonville State University, where she spent two years on the women’s soccer team before continuing her academic and athletic journey at Clayton State University for one year.Â
Outside of soccer, she enjoys running in her free time and is a fan of the U.S. Women’s National Team, with her favorite athlete being Rose Lavelle. Samantha is the daughter of Terri and Dan Giel and has a sister, Emily. Her dedication, athleticism, and academic focus make her a valuable addition to the Hawks' program.
