Biography

Career (2022–25): Over his four-year career with the Hawks, Ellis anchored the back line for four consecutive seasons, appearing and starting in all 63 matches. He totaled 4,990 minutes, played the full 90 minutes 34 times, and helped the Hawks record nine shutouts. Ellis also contributed offensively with three goals and one assist for seven career points.

2025 (Senior): In his final season, Ellis appeared and started all 18 matches, totaling 1,610 minutes and playing the full 90 minutes in 16 contests while spending just 10 total minutes on the bench. Wearing the captain’s armband in every match, he anchored a Hawks back line that allowed just 0.78 goals per game and posted six shutouts. Ellis also recorded his first career assist in a 2–0 win over Illinois Springfield.

2024 (Junior): Ellis battled injury during his junior season but still appeared and started in 11 matches, totaling 686 minutes as an anchor in the Hawks’ defense. He took four shots on the year, placing two on goal.

2023 (Sophomore): In his second season, Ellis appeared and started all 17 matches, totaling 1,456 minutes and playing the full 90 minutes in 14 contests while seeing just 74 minutes off the field. He recorded eight shots, six on goal, and scored twice, against Purdue Northwest (9/5/23) and Southwest Baptist (10/8/23).

2022 (Freshman): As a freshman, Ellis appeared and started all 17 matches, totaling 1,238 minutes and playing the full 90 minutes twice. He scored his first collegiate goal against Southwest Baptist (10/21/22) and finished the season with 13 shots, including five on goal.

Personal: Ellis travels north from Troy, Illinois, to join the Hawks soccer program. During his time at Triad High School, Jake was impactful on and off the soccer field. As a freshman with the Knights of Triad High School, Ellis won the Rookie of the Year Award. In his second season at Troy, he was named to the Chicagoland all-state watch list.  As a junior, Ellis helped the Knights go on a state title run, finishing 3rd in 2A state. He was named the overall MVP of his team and made first-team all-conference. During his senior season, Jake helped lead Triad to a second-place finish in 2A, along with being named Triad Male Athlete of the Year, first-team all-conference, Unite Soccer Coaches All-Midwest, and Chicagoland all-state team. 

In the classroom, Ellis had a 3.99 GPA throughout high school, which earned him an IHSA all-state academic and all-conference academic selection during his senior year. Jake was also a member of the National Honors Society, a four-year student council representative, and was the sports announcer for girl's varsity soccer on NFHS. 

Outside of soccer, Ellis enjoys fishing, camping, and cooking. He is also a big fan of the three major sports teams in St. Louis, the Cardinals, Blues, and STL City. Jake is the son of Amy and Tony Ellis and the brother of his only sibling, Jody.

Why QU?
I chose QU because I really liked the campus and soccer program. Quincy was a place where I could see myself enjoying four or more years of academics and soccer.
