Sean Hughes finished his third season as an assistant coach with the Quincy University men's soccer program, helping guide the program to the NCAA Division II national semifinal in 2014 when the Hawks finished with a 21-2-2 record.Â
In 2013, Hughes helped QU to a 15-5 record, including a regular season GLVC co-championship and the No. 1 seed of the GLVC Championship Tournament. Â
In Hughes' first season with the team in 2012, the Hawks sported a 12-2-6 record earning the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Championship Tournament and an NCAA Tournament berth.
Sean Hughes came to Quincy with an accomplished and vast background in the world of soccer. Hughes ventured to the United States from Blackburn, England where he played youth soccer and represented the Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End and Bury FC. While overseas, he also played in the FA Youth Cup and represented the Great Britain Catholic U16’s.
Hughes’ college career extends most recently to Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wis., where he played from 2008-10. Before his stint at Cardinal Stritch, Hughes attended Northeastern State University in Oklahoma from 2006-08 where he was the joint leading goal scorer for both years.
After graduating, Hughes played for Whitsunday Miners FC in the second tier of Australian Soccer. The 2011 team finished the highest it ever had in franchise history. Hughes moved on from Australia to represent the Crewsadors FC in the English National Futsal League North in 2012.Â
In the months prior to joining the Quincy staff, Hughes coached soccer at Sports Domain Academy in New Jersey from March to July 2012.Â
Hughes, who holds an NSCAA national coaching diploma, completed his Masters of Business Administration from Quincy University in May 2014.
