Personal: Gonzalez is from Sagua la Grande, Villa Clara, Cuba, and attended Wheaton North High School, where he competed for the Falcons.

He is the son of Dany Gonzalez and Giselle Nunez and has one sister, Danney. During his high school career, Gonzalez ranked No. 1 all-time in Wheaton North history in the IronMan test, an event made up of the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, hurdles, bench press, squat, and hang clean.

Gonzalez came to the United States four years ago with no English knowledge and did not begin playing football until his freshman year of high school. Away from the field, he enjoys hunting, swimming, snowboarding, sparring, and shooting. His favorite athletes are Cristiano Ronaldo, Maxx Crosby, Nick Bosa, and Christian Gonzalez, and his favorite sports team is the San Francisco 49ers.
