Matt Stembridge

Matt Stembridge is in his fifth season as the Quincy University baseball pitching coach.  Stembridge's other duties include recruiting coordinator, off-season strength and conditioning coordinator, and the administrator of all Quincy University baseball camps and clinics.
 
In 2016, Stembridge’s staff was led by All GLVC performers Brandon Ley (1st Team) and Jake Peterson (2nd Team).  The staff compiled 39 wins in rout to hosting the 2nd straight NCAA Midwest Regional. Redshirt Junior Teddy Rule broke the previous program record for saves during last season for the Hawks and enters his senior season with 24 career saves. The Hawks pitching staff struck out 354 batters last season under the direction of Stembridge. 
 
In 2015, the QU pitching staff had a 3.45 ERA with 337 strikeouts. Quincy was second in the GLVC in ERA and third in strikeouts. Opponents hit at a .260 clip against the Hawks. QU won 40 games for the fourth time in school history. Graham Spraker and Teddy Rule were named to the all-region team under the guidance of Stembrige. Spraker led the GLVC with a 2.16 ERA. Rule was second in the GLVC with 12 saves.  
 
In 2014, Stembridge's pitching staff had a 3.31 team ERA ranking third in QU history and in the GLVC with seven shutouts and 310 strikeouts.  Opponents hit .248 against the Hawks in 2014 ranking second in the GLVC.  Qu finished third in the GLVC allowing 8.31 hits per game.  The Hawks pitching staff had three First Team All-GLVC members.  Jake Peterson earned ABCA First Team All-Midwest Region honors and Second Team All-Midwest Region Daktronics under the guidance of Stembridge.  Cody King earned ABCA Second Team All-Midwest Region honors.  QU closed out the regular season with a 36 scoreless innings streak including 17 consecutive scoreless innings thrown by King.
 
In 2013, the Hawks pitching staff combined for a 3.39 team ERA, ranking fourth in the GLVC and in program history along with four shutouts and 243 strikeouts.  Opponents hit .244 against the Hawks in Stembridge's first season leading the GLVC.  QU also finished first in the GLVC allowing 8.34 hits per game.  The Hawks pitching staff had two All-GLVC members in 2013.
 
Prior to Quincy, Stembridge was the pitching coach, catching instructor, infield instructor, and recruiting coordinator at John Wood Community College from 2008 to 2012.  He also handled off-season strength and conditioning work and was the administrator for the JWCC Blazers baseball camps.  
 
Stembridge coached a Blazers pitching staff that set school records in team ERA (3.99), the team single-season strikeout record, the individual single-season strikeout record, and the career strikeout record.  He coached 10 All-MWAC pitchers, an All-MWAC and All-Region catcher, and two Gold Glove recipients.  In his second year, the program was ranked 12th nationally (highest in school history) and finished 35-16 with a 5.64 team ERA.  The Blazers averaged 33 wins over the last four seasons, were ranked nationally six times, and the team ERA decreased each of his five seasons at John Wood.  The Blazers pitching staff ranked first nationally in strikeouts-per-nine innings and included the national saves leader in 2010.  Their best record came in Stembridge's final year when the Blazers finished 36-19 ranked eighth nationally with a 3.99 ERA.  
 
Stembridge is married to Melissa Stembridge. They have a two-year-old son Maddux and are expecting their second child in October of this year.
