Brandon DeJaynes

Brandon DeJaynes is in his fourth season as a member of the Hawks baseball coaching staff. DeJaynes, who previously was a stand out pitcher at Quincy University, will also serve as recruiting coordinator for the Hawks. In addition DeJaynes recently named an associate scout for the Kansas City Royals.

Under his tutelege the Hawks pitching staff has seen their team earned-run average go down in each season including a 3.80 mark last year which set a new school record for lowest team earned-run average in a season. DeJaynes also worked with Brian Thompson who set a school record for saves in a season last year, leading the nation with 16; and Rich Ruff who was drafted by the New York Mets in the amateur baseball draft.

DeJaynes was a First Team All-American and the NCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year in 2003. DeJaynes recorded a 10-1 record in 2003 with a 0.71 earned-run average and 126 strikeouts in just 88 1/3 innings pitched. His 10 wins still rank as the second most in a single season by a Hawk pitcher while he holds the Hawks single season record for lowest E.R.A. and most strikeouts. He finished with a career record of 13-3 with a 2.19 earned-run average and 166 strikeouts.

He went on to sign a professional contract with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2003, where he became a top 30 prospect in his first season with the Cardinals. He was named the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Month in July of 2004 and finished the season leading all Cardinals minor league affiliates in strikeouts during the 2004 season. In 2005, De Jaynes was ranked as the 13th top prospect in the Cardinals organization and ranked as the number 9th player to watch in 2005 by thecardinalnation.com after ranking 4th in strikeouts in every level and league in all of Minor League baseball. Following the 2005 season, De Jaynes suffered an injury and was later released by the Cardinals. He later spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2006 before a broken wrist and three surgeries ended his career. The Seattle Mariners also selected De Jaynes in the 21st round in 1998, but he chose to pass and start his education and playing career for the Quincy University Hawks.

DeJaynes attained his Bachelors of Science in Sport Management in 2006 from Quincy University and is currently in the process of finishing his Masters in Leadership, also from Quincy University.
