QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team returns to action this weekend with another four-match tournament as the Hawks travel to Lawton, Oklahoma, for the Cameron Invitational, hosted by Cameron University inside Aggie Gym.

Quincy opens the tournament Friday, September 4, at 10 AM against Minot State before taking on Northeastern State at 4 PM The Hawks return Saturday for an 11 AM matchup against host Cameron before closing the weekend against Newman at 3 PM.

The Hawks enter the weekend with a 1-3 record after opening the season at the Warrior Invitational in Detroit, Michigan.

With one of the youngest rosters in the program's recent history, head coach Mark Jones and the Hawks will look to use their second weekend of competition to continue identifying the right combinations and build consistency before conference play approaches.

Learning on the Fly

Quincy opened the 2026 season with a challenging four-match weekend at the Warrior Invitational, finishing 1-3.

The Hawks dropped four-set matches to Northwood and host Wayne State on the opening day before earning their first victory of the season with a four-set win over Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Quincy closed the tournament with a straight-set loss to Hillsdale.

The 1-3 start is the Hawks' slowest since the 2021 season, when Quincy also dropped three of its first four matches.

With 16 freshmen, two transfers and only two returning starters on the roster, the opening weekend provided Jones with an opportunity to use several different combinations as the Hawks continue searching for the right rotation.

Quincy hit .155 as a team across its first four matches, but the Hawks showed flashes of what the offense can become when everything comes together.

In their victory over IUP, the Hawks recorded a weekend-best 52 kills while hitting .252. Quincy did not hit better than .134 in any of its three losses.

Young Hawks Make Early Impact

Several of Quincy's newcomers made immediate contributions during the opening weekend.

Freshman Olivia Curry led the Hawks with 37.5 total points while recording 34 kills and seven block assists across her first four collegiate matches.

Aysem Kocaalp also provided one of the top individual performances of the weekend, leading Quincy with 16 kills in the victory over IUP.

At the net, freshman Monika Bíliková has already collected 14 total blocks, trailing only veteran middle blocker Erin Matzke.

Matzke Provides Veteran Presence

Matzke provided stability for the young Hawks throughout the opening weekend and was named to the Warrior Invitational All-Tournament Team.

The senior middle blocker finished the tournament with 36.5 points, 26 kills, three assists, two digs and a team-high 16 total blocks.

Quincy averaged just over two blocks per set as a team during the tournament, making its work at the net one of the more encouraging parts of the opening weekend.

With so many new players being introduced into larger roles, Matzke's experience remains an important piece as the Hawks continue developing their identity.

Looking for More Consistency

Offensive efficiency and serve receive will be two areas Quincy looks to improve this weekend.

The Hawks allowed 41 service aces across 15 sets during the Warrior Invitational while recording 25 aces of their own.

The difference between Quincy's lone victory and its three losses was also evident offensively. The Hawks hit .252 against IUP but were held to .134 against Northwood, .128 against Wayne State and .107 against Hillsdale.

Finding that offensive rhythm more consistently will be one of the primary goals as Quincy enters its second weekend of competition.

The Cameron Invitational also presents a different type of challenge than the opening weekend.

Quincy's four opponents enter the tournament with a combined 1-15 record, with Minot State accounting for the lone victory. For a young Hawks team still working through rotations and roles, the weekend provides another opportunity to gain experience and establish momentum.

Friday Morning: Minot State

Quincy begins the tournament Friday against Minot State in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

The Beavers enter the weekend 1-3 after competing at the Drury Invitational to open their season.

Minot State earned a five-set victory over Newman before falling in four sets to host Drury, five sets to Texas A&M International and straight sets to Southern Nazarene.

The Beavers finished 3-27 overall and 1-19 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play last season, placing 15th in the conference. Minot State was picked to finish 16th in the 2026 NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Head coach Alex Courtney enters his fourth season leading the program with a 6-63 record.

Minot State has struggled to find consistent offensive production through its first four matches, hitting .131 while allowing opponents to hit .218.

The Beavers have been much more effective defensively in the back row, averaging 18.18 digs per set, a mark that ranks among the best in NCAA Division II through the opening week.

Senior outside hitter Caton Pearcy leads Minot State with 42 kills. Pearcy recorded 17 kills and 23 digs in the season-opening victory over Newman.

Junior defensive specialist/libero Maya Vibeto anchors the back row with 83 digs, averaging 4.88 per set.

The matchup will present an early test for a Quincy offense looking to become more efficient against a Minot State team that has shown an ability to extend rallies.

Friday Afternoon: Northeastern State

Quincy's second match Friday will be a historic one for Northeastern State.

The RiverHawks are competing in their first NCAA women's volleyball season after the program was relaunched following decades without varsity volleyball.

Northeastern State was selected 13th in the MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll and enters the weekend 0-4.

Head coach Maria Jacobus is in her first season leading the program and oversees a roster featuring nine underclassmen among its 17 players.

The RiverHawks opened their inaugural season at the Southern Invite in Joplin, Missouri, falling in straight sets to Missouri S&T, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Southwest Baptist and Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Northeastern State has yet to win a set through its opening four matches and has lost its sets by an average margin of 10.8 points. The RiverHawks are hitting .021 as a team while allowing opponents to hit .267.

Sophomore outside hitter Ashlyn Tag leads Northeastern State with 27 kills through the opening weekend.

Saturday Morning: Cameron

Quincy begins Saturday against tournament host Cameron in Aggie Gym.

The Aggies enter the weekend 0-4 after dropping their first four matches of the season.

Cameron competed in three matches at the Bettye Wallace Invitational, falling in straight sets to Henderson State, Arkansas-Fort Smith and Augustana. The Aggies then returned home Tuesday and dropped a four-set decision to Southern Nazarene.

Cameron finished 7-23 overall and 3-14 in Lone Star Conference action last season, tying for 15th in the league standings. The Aggies were picked 16th in the 2026 LSC Preseason Poll.

First-year head coach Danlynn Silva is in her first season leading the program.

Cameron is hitting .108 as a team through four matches while opponents have posted a .263 hitting percentage. The Aggies have also recorded only 12 service aces through their opening four contests.

Senior right side Maria Osorio has been Cameron's most consistent offensive option. Osorio leads the Aggies with 49.5 points, 43 kills and nine total blocks while hitting .213. She has recorded double-digit kills in each of Cameron's first four matches.

Junior outside hitter Anastasija Andelic has provided production on both sides of the ball, leading the team with 48 digs while ranking second with 23 kills. Andelic has also been reliable in serve receive, successfully handling 114 of 116 opportunities.

Quincy and Cameron have met three times previously, with the Aggies holding a 2-1 advantage in the series dating back to 1990. The Hawks won the most recent meeting in 2018 at a neutral-site tournament in Magnolia, Arkansas.

Saturday Afternoon: Newman

The Hawks close the Cameron Invitational against Newman. The Jets enter the weekend 0-4 after opening their season at the Drury Invitational.

Newman fell in five sets to Minot State before dropping matches to Texas A&M International, Southern Nazarene and Drury.

Newman finished 3-24 overall and 1-15 in MIAA play last season, placing 12th in the conference. The Jets were selected 12th out of 13 teams in this year's MIAA preseason poll.

First-year head coach Tori Provencio enters her first season leading the program.

Newman is hitting .167 through four matches while allowing opponents to hit .244.

The Jets have received production from several different attackers, including Priscilla Raschen and Ashlyn Warburton.

Raschen leads Newman with 33 kills despite not being a regular starter, while Warburton has recorded 26 kills and is hitting .246.

The Hawks and Jets are tied 2-2 in the all-time series dating back to 2009, but Quincy has won each of the last two meetings. The most recent matchup came in 2023, when the Hawks swept Newman in straight sets inside Pepsi Arena.

Opportunity to Build Momentum

After a challenging opening weekend, the Cameron Invitational gives Quincy four more opportunities to learn about a roster still developing its identity.

Jones was able to use a variety of lineups in Detroit, with several freshmen already establishing themselves as potential contributors alongside the small group of returning veterans.

The next step will be finding more consistency.

Quincy showed its potential during the four-set victory over IUP, when the Hawks hit .252 and received contributions throughout the lineup. Replicating that performance more consistently will be the goal as Quincy continues through its non-conference schedule.

With all four opponents also looking to establish early-season momentum, the weekend gives the Hawks an opportunity to settle into their rotations, continue developing their young roster and return from Oklahoma with positive momentum heading into the next portion of the schedule.
