Quincy University Hawks

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Quincy University women's soccer team battled through 90 minutes on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to Pittsburg State at Gorilla Soccer Pitch.

Being the first ever meeting between Quincy and Pittsburg State, the Hawks found themselves trailing early after Pittsburg's Avianna Gonzalez scored in the third minute. Despite the early deficit, Quincy settled in and continued to challenge the Gorillas throughout the remainder of the match. 

Quincy recorded six shots, putting four on target. Jessie Newton, Daniella Segall, Aubrey Eagan, and Emma Tell each tested goalkeeper Jocelyn Kramar. Rebecca Rheinheimer created opportunities late in the match, recording two shots in the final 15 minutes as the Hawks searched for an equalizer. 

Defensively, the Hawks held Pittsburg State scoreless for the final 87 minutes. Goalkeeper Devin Tracy kept Quincy within striking distance throughout the match, making four saves, including important stops as the Gorillas finished with 15 shots. 

Quincy continued to push forward in the second half, earning its lone corner kick of the match in the 80th minute. Rheinheimer followed with another shot just moments later, but Pittsburg's defense managed to preserve the shutout. 

While the Hawks were unable to even the score, they showed resilience after conceding early and kept the match within one goal until the final whistle. In addition, after the last two games, Dache Johnson has reached a career milestone by surpassing 2,000 minutes played in her Quincy soccer career. Her commitment and consistency shows with every minute played as she continues to establish her presence on the field.

Quincy will look to build from Wednesday's competitive performance as they continue through the early portion of the season. The next match is on Saturday, September 5th at 12:00 PM, hosted at McKendree University.
