QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team battled Missouri S&T to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Legends Stadium, using a second-half goal from
Rebecca Rheinheimer to remain unbeaten in GLVC play.
Missouri S&T controlled much of the opening half, outshooting the Hawks 6-1 while earning five corner kicks.
Devin Tracy kept Quincy within striking distance with two first-half saves, but the Miners broke through in the 27th minute.
The opening goal came at the 26:27 mark when Lily Simpson received a pass from Adriana Benassi near the top of the box. Simpson unleashed a perfectly placed strike into the upper-right corner, leaving Tracy with little chance to make a play on it and giving Missouri S&T the 1-0 advantage.
Quincy came out with a different look offensively after halftime, generating eight shots in the second 45 minutes after being held to just one in the opening period.
The Hawks' pressure paid off in the 56th minute.
Following a Missouri S&T foul, Quincy worked quickly on the restart from its defensive half.
Jessie Newton sent a ball forward that allowed Rheinheimer to slip behind the Miners' back line. Rheinheimer got to it before the goalkeeper and flicked a shot over her to level the match at 1-1 at the 55:55 mark.
The goal was Rheinheimer's fourth of the season, while Newton picked up her sixth assist, which leads all of NCAA Division II.
Quincy continued to create chances down the stretch.
Erin Kretzer put an attempt on goal in the 66th minute before Newton and Rheinheimer each forced saves during the final 20 minutes, but the Hawks were unable to find the go-ahead goal.
Missouri S&T finished with an 11-9 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Tracy played all 90 minutes between the posts for Quincy and made five saves while allowing just the one goal.
The draw moves the Hawks to 2-1-3 overall and 2-0-1 in GLVC play.
Quincy returns to the road for more conference action, traveling to Romeoville, Illinois, to take on the Lewis University Flyers. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM from Lewis Stadium.
