BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team closed out the 2026 season on a high note Saturday afternoon, sweeping Southwest Baptist University for the second straight day inside Meyer Sports Center by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-23. The Hawks finished their first season as members of the GLVC with a 10-13 overall record and a 7-7 mark in conference play, good for fifth in the league standings.
Southwest Baptist opened the match with a 7-3 lead behind four early kills. Quincy responded quickly, and with the Hawks trailing 9-5, they went on a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the set at 10-9.
Zackary Zdrojeski capped off the run with back-to-back kills. The set remained close throughout, with both teams trading runs, but with Quincy leading 22-21, the Hawks scored three of the final four points to secure the set 25-22 after
Bauer Larson delivered the final kill. Quincy hit .286 in the opening set with 17 kills and seven errors, while limiting Southwest Baptist to a .182 hitting percentage.
The second set saw Quincy take control early, jumping out to an 8-3 advantage behind kills from four different Hawks. The Bearcats stayed within striking distance at 19-16, but the Hawks closed the set on a dominant 6-0 run. Southwest Baptist committed three errors during the stretch while Quincy added a pair of big blocks to pull away for a 25-16 win and take a 2-0 lead in the match. Quincy recorded 12 kills and hit .308 in the set, while Southwest Baptist struggled offensively, hitting just .040 with eight kills and seven errors.
The third set featured another close battle as Quincy slowly increased its lead with multiple two and three-point runs. The Hawks held an 18-14 advantage before Southwest Baptist responded with a 4-0 run to tie the set. The Bearcats eventually grabbed a 23-22 lead, but Quincy answered with three consecutive points to close out the sweep.
Tomas Badan delivered back-to-back service aces during the final run to put an exclamation point on the Hawks' season. Quincy hit just .050 in the final set, but found a way to close out the match despite Southwest Baptist totaling 16 kills in the frame.
The Hawks finished the match with 37 kills, seven service aces, seven blocks, and 35 digs while holding Southwest Baptist to a .137 hitting percentage. Quincy hit .198 as a team and forced the Bearcats into 22 attacking errors.
Barnabas Fenyvesi led the Hawks with 12 kills, two service aces, and a .321 hitting percentage. Zdrojeski added nine kills and nine digs, while Larson finished with eight kills and three blocks. Badan was highly efficient with five kills on seven attempts for a .714 hitting percentage, adding two service aces and five blocks.
Dylan Feely dished out 32 assists and added six digs, while
Jade Breckheimer chipped in eight digs defensively.
