QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's tennis team picked up a conference victory Friday morning with a 5-2 win over Southwest Baptist at Reservoir Park.
The Hawks controlled doubles play, sweeping all three courts to secure the opening point. The No. 1 duo of
Inigo Villacampa and
Enrique Doldan earned a dominant 6-1 victory, while Rodrigo Coello and
Patricio Jimenez battled to a 7-6 win at No. 2.
Gerard Abad Puig and
Cristobal Tellez added a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
The doubles victory marked a fourth straight win for Villacampa and his third consecutive alongside Doldan. For Doldan, it was his ninth consecutive doubles victory overall.
In singles play, Villacampa continued his strong stretch with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1, extending his singles winning streak to 10 matches. Doldan added one of the biggest wins of the day at No. 2, defeating the nation's 72nd-ranked singles player, Alejandro Sanchez, in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6.
Cristobal Tellez and
David Eusamio also picked up straight-set wins in singles play to help Quincy secure the team result.
The Hawks will be back in action against No. 45 Drury on April 11 at 10:00 AM.
